SUSTAINABLE TECHNOLOGIES FOR THE PRODUCTION AND HEALTH OF MONOGASTRIC ANIMALS

Project Coordinator: Prof. Dr. Igo Gomes Guimarães

Collaborating Professors: Prof. Dr. Monica Rodrigues Ferreira Machado

Sustainability is a broad term that is usually interpreted in a limited way within the context of animal production. The concept of sustainability does not only include the environmental aspect, but also the inclusion of the social and One Health context. Thus, sustainable animal production must adapt and produce food using systems that are inclusive from a social point of view, have limited environmental impact and promote the health and well-being of animals and humans, challenges that are rarely explored within animal production systems. Thus, this project aims to explore technologies that improve monogastric production systems using nutrition as the main tool to reduce the use of antimicrobials and environmental impact, thus contributing to the generation of alternatives for sustainable production in its broadest sense.
