Analysis and guidance on the microbiological and parasitological quality of water for human and animal consumption
Project Coordinator: Cecília Nunes Moreira
Project Participants: Students in the Program
The project aims to assess the quality of water consumed in the Jataí region, with an emphasis on detecting pathogenic microorganisms and protozoa, in addition to promoting educational activities focused on the hygiene and correct storage of this essential resource. The initiative ranges from the collection and laboratory analysis of water samples to the return of the results to the participating institutions, accompanied by recommendations for correcting any contamination. The proposal includes visits to public and private schools, where master's and undergraduate students and researchers give lectures and interactive activities, using banners, informative folders and microscopes to view bacteria and colonies. This educational and participatory approach raises awareness about the importance of hand and food hygiene, encouraging elementary school children to spread the knowledge acquired within their families. Furthermore, the project foresees the analysis of water consumed by herds, since water quality directly influences animal health and productivity.
