Abstract

Due to the growing search for analgesic protocols in felines, this study aimed to

compare three analgesic infusion protocols, containing ketamine (GC),  methadone (GM), and ketamine associated with methadone (GCM), associated with infusion of propofol, totaling 21 female cats, aged 6 months to 3 years, weighing 2-4 kg, who underwent elective ovariosalpingohysterectomy surgery. They were divided into three groups GC (n=7), GM (n=7) and GCM (n=7). The CG received a bolus dose of ketamine 1 mg/kg intravenously, the GM a bolus dose of methadone 0.5 mg/kg intramuscularly and the GCM received two bolus doses of ketamine 1 mg/kg intravenously and methadone 0.5 mg/kg intramuscularly , followed by infusion of ketamine at a dose of 10 μg/kg/min (GC), methadone at a dose of 4.4 μg/kg/min (GM),and ketamine/methadone (GCM) at doses of 10 μg/kg/ min and 4.4 μg/kg/min. Vital parameters were monitored: HR, SBP, TºC, f, ETCO2, SpO2, in addition to the degree of relaxation and need for analgesic rescue. The evaluation of postoperative pain was performed for 12 hours, with the aid of the multidimensional pain scale for cats. Statistical analyzes were performed using the Shapiro-Wilk normality test for parametric data ONE WAY ANOVA followed by the Student-Newman-Keuls test for between-group evaluation, between moments ONE WAY-RM ANOVA was performed, followed by the Bonferroni test. For non-parametric data, ONE WAY-RM ANOVA followed by Freedman test between time points, and between groups ONE WAY ANOVA followed by Kruskall Wallis, data were considered significant at p<0.05. In the transoperative period, the groups with methadone (GM and GCM) presented bradycardia and excitement in the postoperative period, in all groups there was need for analgesic rescue. Postoperatively, there was 1/7 rescue in the GM, in 2/7 animals in the GCM, and 5/7 animals in the CG. Demonstrating satisfactory postoperative analgesia promoted by the infusion of methadone or ketamine associated with methadone in female cats undergoing elective ovariosalpingohysterectomy.
