EPIDEMIOLOGY AND OCCURRENCE OF PARASITIC DISEASES IN DOMESTIC AND WILD ANIMALS
Coordinator: Dirceu Guilherme de Souza Ramos
Animal populations are regulated by several biotic and abiotic factors. Among the biotic factors that regulate animal populations and/or interfere with the development of individuals are parasites that can cause various disorders and pathological changes. Diagnosing these diseases caused by parasites is essential, first for the health of a specific individual, regardless of the species, but also for the knowledge and maintenance of data that assist not only researchers, but also professionals in the animal health area in the treatment and control of parasitic diseases in groups of domestic and wild animals. This project aims to survey the occurrence and possible risk factors that are linked to the occurrence of parasitic diseases in animals, primarily in the Southwest of the State of Goiás, but extending to the entire state, as required. The aim of the project is to diagnose parasitic diseases in samples sent (without handling the animals, only samples sent) to the Veterinary Pathology and Parasitology Laboratory of the Federal University of Jataí (feces, blood, tissues, parasites, etc.), through various parasitological diagnostic techniques depending on the type of sample and the host species. The aim is to diagnose parasitic diseases in order to form a database that allows the analysis of risk factors related to these parasitoses.
