ABSTRACT
Presently, the predisposition of obese bitches to tumor development has been studied. In women, it is known that obesity may be associated with the appearance of breast tumors. In companion animals this data is still scarce, mainly associating the clinic of the patient with laboratory and histological findings. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical and laboratory aspects of bitches with breast neoplasia, investigating whether they are related to obesity. Four groups of bitches, either castrated or whole, were divided into: (G1) bitches without breast tumor and normal body condition score (GCE), (G2) bitches without breast tumor and obese, (G3) bitches with tumor of breast and normal ECC, (G4) bitches with breast and obese tumors. The Body Condition Score (ECC), Canine Body Mass Index (IMCC), blood glucose, total cholesterol, triglycerides, cytopathological and histopathological examination were evaluated. The non-defined animals were the most present in the study (67.5%). In the analysis of the Canine Body Mass Index there was a statistical difference between group G2 and G4. Glucose also differed statistically between the G1xG3 and G2xG4 groups. Therefore, it was observed that obesity did not trigger clinical and laboratory changes in bitches. No relationship was found between ECC and the IMCC with the histological type or malignancy of the mammary neoplasia, since both the ideal and the overweight group had obese malignant histological types. There was a limitation on the use of canine body mass index in relation to body proportionality. Of the 28 tumors evaluated, carcinoma in mixed tumor was the most present malignant histological type and benign was adenomioepithelioma.
