ABSTRACT

Venomous animals are those that produce poisonous substance in a group of cells or secretory organ (gland), and possess a tool capable of injecting such venom into its prey or predator. Among the main animals involved in these diseases are scorpions, spiders and snakes. Data published by the Department of Informatics of the Brazilian Unified Health System (DATASUS) and Notification of Injury Information System (SINAN) have confirme the increase number of occurrences and deaths in recent years. During the period of 2013-2017, 890,275 accidents were reported for venomous species in Brazil, with 1,225 deaths due to the notified disease. Thus, epidemiological data corroborate the need for guidelines to the population on the importance of adopting preventive measures, which in turn, can be determinant in reducing the losses that are generated for public health. In this context, the Veterinarian it’s inserted as one of the health professionals with competence to raise awareness of the population and the training of primary care workers. Among these professionals, we highlight the Community Health Agents (ACS) who work in the territories of their Municipality, performing activities of disease prevention and health promotion. At the same time, agents that fight against endemias (ACE), which are part of epidemiological surveillance and also associate with the population, are considered as a fundamental professional for the control of endemic diseases and / or zoonoses through real estate surveys. Therefore, these professionals were summoned to participate in a training course on the Prevention of Accidents by venomous animals, held in the Municipality of Jataí. The importance of Health Education was verified when, through the application of questionnaires, in one of the questions, 84.78% (39/46) of the participants before the training course stated that they know how to prevent against accidents. Already after the educational actions, 100% of respondents answered to know how to prevent against the disease. Thus, the main objective of the research was to demonstrate the efficacy of Health Education by training health professionals (ACS/ACE) on measures to prevent accidents by venomous animals, as well as elucidating the importance of the veterinarian as a health educator, by transforming these professionals as multipliers in information.
